I was listening to a mom talk about teaching a six year old the difference between “blew” and “blue”. Child goes to a Catholic school.
“Why is that? It’s confusing.”
“That’s the way the English language is.”
“Oh, I know. It’s because it’s God’s world, and that’s His rules. It doesn’t have to make sense.”
Turns to me, “That’s Catholic schools for you.”
* *speechless*
The mother didn’t even bother correcting the child and teaching her some history while at it. Kids shouldn’t be babied like this. They pick up more than we think they do, and they absorb it like sponges. We should give them all the tools necessary to think for themselves.
Or is it just me?
